Everyone's always on about saving electricity and reducing our carbon footprint, but beyond returning to the time of Charles Dickens and carrying a candle to bed in your night dress, you might wonder what else you can do. (For the record, we think the Ebenezer Scrooge look should be left well in the past.)Well, have you ever thought about trying to catch sunglight in a jar? It might not have been at the top of your list of things to consider, but imagine how brilliant that would be...free light that never runs out. That's impossible though right? Wrong, with the Sun Jar you can! You won't have a jar of sunlight exactly, but the sun will charge the battery, powering a light bulb and creating new light. Ok, it might not provide enough light to brighten your whole house, but it certainly beats the flicker of a candle flame, and its orange glow is rather atmospheric. Catching the sun is easy when you know how - just place the jar on a sunny windowsill and allow it to soak up the sun all day. When it gets dark the LED light bulb will automatically begin to glow and will continue to provide free light for up to five hours. The Sun Jar can be used indoors or outdoors so it's perfect for parties, barbeques or a romantic dinner for two (no candles required). In fact, they'll probably be a lot less burnt tablecloths to contend with! Just one warning...don't try using any old jar to capture sunlight. It won't work and you WILL be left looking foolish. Jar measures approx 16cm high.
