Temperament

German Pinschers have a companionable and brave temperament. They are not particularly friendly towards strangers due to their protective instincts of family. They need regular and consistent training from an early age because this is a confident dog who will consider you a pushover if you do not show it strong leadership.

The breed makes a good watchdog because they tend to bark in announcement of visitors.

Health problems that may affect German Pinschers include canine hip dysplasia (CHD), elbow dysplasia, cataracts, heart disease, blood clotting disease and thyroid disease.
