Whilst ladders can be useful, they can also be dangerous, especially for juvenile gerbils. We’ve all fallen down the stairs - well, the same can happen to your gerbils if there are ladders in their enclosure. Even worse - the ladders and stairs can even catch one of their legs, breaking it during a fall.

It’s best to provide ramps or tubes if you need to help your gerbils reach a space in their enclosure. Just be sure to stabilise them properly so that they can’t fall! Bricks or another stable, weighty object could be good for ensuring these objects can’t slip, slide or tumble.
